Hua Feng conducts research in high energy astrophysics, focusing on observational X-ray astronomy and instrumentation for future space astronomy. He leads a group at Tsinghua University devoted to the study of high-sensitivity X-ray polarimetry, a new and promising window in X-ray astronomy. In October 2018, he led the launch of PolarLight, which is a novel X-ray polarimeter based on the electron tracking technique onboard a CubeSat. PolarLight is expected to re-detect the polarization from the Crab nebula and pulsar, and re-open the field that has been closed for more than 40 years. He is also interested in X-ray and optical observations of accreting compact objects, trying to reveal observational signatures associated with supercritical accretion. In recent years, he has been trying to understand the outflow driven by supercritical accretion.
